This year Canada accepted many refugees into our country to give them a shelter, food, clothing and much more. The Government of Canada resettled 25,000 Syrian refugees between November 2015 and February 29, 2016. There are two main canadian refugee protection programs, the Refugee and Humanitarian Resettlement Program, for people seeking protection from outside Canada and the In-Canada Asylum Program for people making refugee protection claims from within Canada.
What is A refugee?
Refugees are people who have been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. A refugee is different from an immigrant an immigrant is a person who chooses to settle permanently in another country. Refugees are forced to flee.
Giving back
A number of Syrian refugees are helping out with a community harvest in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, saying it is a way of giving back to the country that has taken them in. Farming is nothing new for refugee Mohammed Aboukhir.“I have farmed in Syria before, and I have worked for more than 20 years all week and weekend at my farm,” said Aboukhir. “All my family likes to farm.”Having arrived in Saskatchewan just six months ago, Aboukhir was eager to find ways to give back.“Canada gave me a lot of things for me and my children,” he explained. “Now, I’m trying to do something for Canada.”
Syrian Refugee children heading back to school
For any kid, heading back to school can be nerve-racking but for children who have fled their country and have just beginning to get used to the new environment it can be very stressful and upsetting. This week most syrian refugee children have started school.
In conclusion we have helped many syrian refugees into our country and the syrian refugees have also helped us.
